Bio

Lisa was born in South Carolina and raised around the world for some of her formative years, including the Washington D.C. area. as a young teenager she moved with her mother and sister to California.

Art has always been important in her life. She was encouraged throughout grade school to pursue it by her teachers. She relished their encouragement and enjoyed making special projects for her schools.

As a teenager, Lisa was inspired by her step-grandfather (well-known WPA artist and college professor Vincent Maragliotti) and even now fondly remembers watching him paint. Due to family conflicts however, she was not able to take him up on his offer to learn to paint from him.

Guided by what her mother thought was a ‘more practical’ career- Lisa started college as a business major. Art still called to her and she enjoyed a few art classes on the side.   She continued on and earned an A.S. degree in Business and then met and married her husband Ken. After devoting 20 or so years to her family and children- she was encouraged (by her daughters while seeking their own dreams as young adults) to pursue her dream of doing art.

While a part-time office manager she took art classes at Cypress Community College and enjoyed learning to paint from her mentor Paul Paiement and to handbuild ceramics from professor Molly Schulps.

Lisa’s passion for art is reflected in her work, and a deep multicultural understanding shaped by her international upbringing reflect a very fresh and unique perspective. Her love and respect for nature are very evident in her work as well, leading to her body of work. Depicting animals, people, or nature in universally understood scenarios.

She just graduated with her BFA in Ceramics from California State University, Long Beach in spring of 2018.
